| Dear Educator, Rosen Math for the Real World by Rosen Classroom
Materials integrates math into curriculum subjects, such as English
Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies through literature.
According to research (Clark, 2002) literature can be the vehicle
for providing meaningful context for learning in math and help the
learner:
- Value math
- Encourages learners to be problem solvers
- Provides and builds mathematical vocabulary
- Supports reasoning
- Make connecting to real-life
- Provides visualization of mathematical concepts through illustrations
Research also indicates that when literature and math are connected,
students understand math concepts readily and retain the knowledge
(Raymond, 1995). Math scores have also been known to increase when
math strategies are combined with literature (Jennings, 1992).
