Mondo Publishing has just released
Now I Get It!, a product to fill the need for “just
right” texts to model comprehension strategies in a whole or
small group setting.
Now I Get It!
features short-text passages that better enable students to focus on
a specific comprehension strategy as well as on their own thinking.
In each lesson, students apply two of the following comprehension
strategies (one per session) while developing an understanding of
the various structures and features of specific text types:
- Making connections
- Answering and generating questions
- Making inferences
- Recognizing text structure
- Visualizing
- Determining importance
- Synthesizing/summarizing
The Text Posters include a variety of fiction and
nonfiction text types, including poetry, traditional tales,
historical fiction, procedure, explanation and biography/memoir.
Report format and persuasive nonfiction texts are included in every
grade.
Comprehension Posters accompany each lesson allowing teachers to
revisit each text and deepen students’ understanding of the text
type and theme through exposure to and practice with a specific
comprehension strategy. |
