This unit focuses on the understanding of self as an individual and as part of a class, through activities that encourage the expansion of vocabulary and the identification of who and what is important in one’s life. The writing of an “All About Me” book provides the opportunity to use the new vocabulary and to record information about important figures, objects, and events in one’s life.

This unit focuses on developing listening, speaking, and writing skills through a study of animals in familiar children’s books.

Unit 6: The Author’s Chair

This unit focuses on exposure to different styles of writing used by various authors. Additionally, this unit focuses on an author’s purpose and how story elements are developed and used as well as how students may use those techniques in writing their own stories.

This unit focuses on the identification of rhyming word patterns in selected literature, such as nursery rhymes, poems, and rhyming songs.
